Julian Arévalo Bencardino

Julian Arévalo Bencardino is an Associate at the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT) where he works on the Institute’s regional and global projects.

Prior to joining IFIT, Julián worked for five years at the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace of Colombia, where he participated in the peace talks with the FARC and with the ELN, and where he developed activities aimed at connecting the private sector with the peace process. He also worked as an advisor to the Minister of the Interior of Colombia, leading the group that focuses on dealing with social conflicts across the country.

Julián is an economics graduate from Universidad Externado de Colombia and holds a PhD in Political Science from Boston University. His work focuses on state building, conflict resolution and democratisation. He is a Professor of Economics and Political Science, and Dean of the Department of Economics at Universidad Externado de Colombia.
