Negotiating with Criminal Gangs: an Inevitable Path for Haiti?

This webinar brings together leading experts on Haiti and on negotiating with criminal groups to examine the question of whether, when and how to prepare for or engage in negotiations with Haiti’s criminal gangs.

Haitian scholars Professor Robert Fatton and Professor Francois-Pierre Louis lend their expert perspectives on the entrenched gang crisis and the scope for negotiations in the local context.

Robert Fatton, Jr. is Ambassador Henry J. Taylor and Mrs. Marion R. Taylor Professor of Politics Emeritus, Department of Politics, University of Virginia.  

François Pierre-Louis is professor of political science at Queens College, CUNY. 

Laurent Dubois is the John L. Nau III Bicentennial Professor in the History & Principles of Democracy of the Corcoran Department of History of the University of Virginia.

Martha Maya is Senior Associate and Head of Latin America Regional Office at the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT). 

Mark Freeman is the Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT).

María José Daza B is a research associate at the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT).
