Tecla Wanjala

Dr. Tecla Wanjala is the CEO of the Shalom Centre for Counselling and Development (SCCoDev) and works as an independent consultant with governments, intergovernmental, and international organizations globally on peacebuilding, human rights, and social healing.

Previously, she served as Director of the Social Healing and Reconciliation Program of the Green String Network in Nairobi. She also held the position of Vice and Acting Chairperson of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission Kenya (TJRC-Kenya) and is an eminent member of Kenya’s National Peace and Mediation Team. Earlier in her career, she coordinated relief and rehabilitation efforts for victims of ethnic and land clashes in 1991/1992 under the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma and served as National Coordinator for the Peace and Development Network. Additionally, she acted as an in-house consultant in peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction with the Japan International Cooperation Agency for Eastern and Southern Africa.

Dr. Wanjala holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and an MA in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University. She is a recipient of the 2019 Peacebuilder of the Year Award from Eastern Mennonite University and was nominated for the 1,000 Women for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. She is a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow with the Robert Bosch Academy and a former Research Fellow at the Kroc Institute, University of Notre Dame.
